AVIATION POST CARDS & POSTCARDS--MILITARY AIRCRAFT

"'10 ACRES OF FLYING CADETS  SAN ANTONIO AVIATION CADET CENTER  SAN ANTONIO TEXAS" unused linen postcard published by the San Antonio Card Company, browning of paper on the back. $3.00 a(m)t

Zeppelin_img031_small.jpg military post card available from Judnick.com"1912  AN OBSERVATION BALLOON OF U. S. Aerial Service, anchored to a vessel. / From this balloon the actions of the enemy under-sea boats are detected" showing a tethered balloon working from a ship, unused black & white postcard with good edges. This is the SC-1 (Signal Corps #1) of the US Army, while being tested at Fort Myer Virginia (hence, its access to the coastal waters), and operating from the first permanent military airfield in the United States. Excessively rare, there is no record of its likes being offered anywhere else on the Internet. It is astonishing that testing of a then-new military capability from a then-new military installation would receive any publicity at all in print; we speculate that the military censors put the kibosh on this ill-considered idea rather quickly! $130.00 100.00 bvm(a)a(m) SALE PRICE: SAVE $30.00 (23% OFF)

Zeppelin_3134ParisLe-200_small.JPG miliatry postcard available from Judnick.com"3134 -- PARIS.  Le Dirigeable militaire Republique, après avoir évolué sur Paris, retourne à Meudon." black & white carte postale mailed 1913 at Paris (stamp removed), heavily toned back, album marks on back, many speckles of cancel ink on front sky. On 25 September 1909 it crashed, incurring substantial damage, but it was repaired quickly. Meudon is short for Chalais-Meudon, its hangar near Paris. $11.00 zfa(m)d

"A-10A Warthog / First Entering service in 1975, this heavily-armed 2 / engine aircraft is ideal for punishing all types of / ground targets..." showing it being serviced, chrome post card, near mint condition. (4 available). $1.25 for one, $1.00 each for quantities. a(m)

"'Adverse fortune ever fly thee, / No disastrous fate come nigh thee. / (Duchess of Malfi, Act III, Scene V) Webster. / UNION JACK INDUSTRIES LEAGUE.  COPYRIGHT" with missing quote in caption as reported here, unused Milton patriotic World War I postcard, published by Woolstone Brothers (their Series No. 29), all British manufacture, trivial corner wear. Apparently rare. The only other example we found was in the Science & Society Picture Library, and there were no other offers. The archaic 'fly' from the 1613 tragic play would be today's 'flee', which may have been misunderstood by this postcard's more modern audience & account for its rare sightings. Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged 300-dpi scan (publication quality) in .jpg format for $3.75. pwa(m)
