Calendar_1943MarchJuly-200small.jpg calendar art available from Judnick.com
1943. Complete set of 12 monthly calendar cards with Vargas pinup art -- the set passed out as favors to Esquire executives at their 1942 Christmas party. Never bound together, each is the size of a regular postcard with blank back, the monthly calendar positioned in various places depending on the model's pose. The models were invited, and we gather 9 were able to attend. An enterprising executive whipped out his pen & asked for autographs! The 9 models signed their first names over their respective calendars, not the art, using the same pen but each with her own distinctive handwriting: Forrest signed January; Hailey signed April; Gracey signed July; Mather signed October; etc. Why just the first names? Well it was certainly more personal, but it also assured the models that their full names would not become more publicly known. [How times have changed!] Shown top row: January & February. Second row: March & July. Excellent condition throughout. Excessively rare. In 30 years of dealing we have seen only one other complete set, and they were all unsigned; so the models certainly did not sign for everybody present. Reminder: just pages torn from the regular 1943 calendars show up from-time-to-time as auctionable items. $500.00 cpa
