"Potsdam-Sanssouci Antiken-Tempel." color postcard from Serie Radio L. W. B. No. 572, unused, edge wear, paper browning on back shows its age. Please note: The "temple" shown on this postcard is not a Jewish temple. Instead, it served to house part of Friedrich the Great's collection of antiques. Its architecture deliberately resembles that of a temple, as can be said of other buildings in that park. $7.50 ea

"16. Selecting turtles for the market" in Costa Rica, postcard from H. Wimmer, unused, slight yellowing of the baci paper with age, minor wear at 2 corners, unusual subject matter. Turtles such as the one shown are now endangered. $9.50 ce
"8. Carr Fork, Bingham Canyon, Utah" color postcard mailed 1909, corner crease most easily seen from the back, minor corner rounding. This interesting & historic scene depicts mining of copper, lead, and zinc ore, and the preparation of the area for smelting operations of International Smelting and Refining (which commenced the following year). This area was declared a Superfund Site in 2000 due primarily to the levels of arsenic & lead in the soil after the operations of IS&R and later companies. Sold but still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (about 771% of original print area) & enhanced 200-dpi scan in .jpg or .tif format. $2.00 ume

The 'Desert' is 40 acres of glacial silt exposed by overgrazing, land clearance & soil erosion. Thus, a long-standing lack of ecological awareness eventually created a tourist attraction! $1.75 m(f)e

"HK0TU" Isla de Malpelo DX-pedition QSL card used April 4 1961 by HK3LX. Only 4 other landings on this island were known at the time. Since then the island was declared a natural World Heritage site by UNESCO for the remarkable shark population in its waters--including the smalltooth sand tiger. Equipment was carried ashore in 8 sealed barrels. Several members of the Colmbian Naval ship Ciudad de Quibdo are credited for their help. Bi-fold format, the size of 2 regular postcards. "KP5 / N1DX" Desecheo Island National Wildlife Refuge DXpedition shortwave (28 MHz) QSL card with detailed map (!) of the small island on front, used 1992 by operator Jack Corson. Back describes in harrowing detail the perils of his trip there, apparently done with the permission of the US Interior Department. Rare, this small National Wildlife Refuge is uninhabited & ordinarily closed to the public because of unexploded US military ordnance there. $6.00 pme
"'LUHRIG COAL WASHER, ZALESKI, OHIO' 10085" including some tracks passing by its exterior, unused color postcard, circa 1908 judging by the back; noticeable corner & edge wear, a very few tiny dark spots on the back. Near present-day Lake Hope, this washer would separate out unmarketable wastes such as iron pyrite & flush them into Raccoon Creek (also called Coon Creek, which ran black and acidic as a result, and whose fish died out for decades). $12.50 o(z)o(r)me

"NAVASSA ISLAND / JANUARY 1992 DX-PEDITION / KP1" Lulu Bay shortwave (14 MHz) QSL viewcard used 1992 by Randy (N0TG) one of the operators pictured on the front . To give an idea of how rare this view of the uninhabited island is, consider that "the landing is accomplished by climbing a wire rope ladder that dangles about 40 feet from a cantilevered catwalk over the ocean." The island is a nature reserve administered by the United States Fish & Wildlife Service, but Haiti still claims sovereignty since 1801. Shown. $7.50 he.
