"FREIGHT TRAIN ON 'ROAD OF GOOD SERVICE'" postcard published by the McKinley Lines of the I. T. S., unused, 2 corner creases, light toning both sides. The engine number is 1565. "Greetings / from / Irving / Illinois" in glitter added to a postcard with fanciful art depicting an airship made mostly of violets, addressed & messaged to Miss Estella Matkins in Fillmore Illinois but unmailed, minor wear to the bottom corners, some of the glitter rubbed off. Interesting message from ailing writer--'I went to Nokomis two weeks to Mrs. Rungg's to take treatment from the Osteopath and now go to Hillsboro when I am able...' The Hillsboro DO was John J. McAllister and his Joliet High School Band / use and exclusively endorse Conn Instruments" unused circa-1936 ad postcard for high-end instruments from the Heney & Lefter Music Company of St. Petersburg Florida, trivial wear to the bottom corners. Rare. Why would anyone use a high school band to endorse instruments? His band won state and national championships, played at Radio City Music Hall &  was praised by none other than John Phillip Sousa. He is widely regarded as the founder of the high school band movement & served as president of the National School Band Association for 14 years. That is why. "Kimber & Evans / KANKAKEE / ILL." showing a well-dressed man wearing a medal standing next to his high-wheeler bicycle, photographic cabinet card approximately 4" x 7", photographer's embossed imprint at the bottom (which we use as the caption), serrated edges as usual, blank back. This style of bike were popular among wealthy young men, due to their cost. Compare the front wheel diameter to his leg length; it was probably his, rather than a prop. The medal quite possibly was awarded in bicycle racing. KASKASKIA RIVER (CLINTON COUNTY). "The old swinging bridge / across the Kaskalkia(sic River / at Carlysle(sic), Ill..."  home-made (and, hence, unique) postcard mailed 1957 at Huey Illinois, a little wear at one upper corner. The bridge is named after General Dean. It spans the Kaskaskia River & is the only one of its kind in Illinois. $2.00 i(c)i(k)b

Miller in Freeport Illinois by her son Marshall, tiny speckles of toning in the front sky. The signage is interesting & may further yield to high magnification. LA GRANGE (COOK COUNTY). "La Grange Water Works, La Grange, Ill.  334" unused sepia-tone real photo post card with evenly divided back, from the studio of Charles R. Childs in Chicago, tiny spot of toning on back obscures nothing. The only mention we could find of the facility was in the June 1, 1912 Electrical Review & Western Electrician, and its oxidation on front confirms such an age. This was a toll bridge of the Lyons & Fulton Bridge Company. Officers & directors of that Company are listed on the back: C. W. Root, A. C. Root, G. W. Ashton, L. C. Moeszinger, A. M. Potts, S. C.
