US COAST GUARD ANTARCTIC OPERATIONS 1957 - 1986
Group of 30 different covers documenting Coast Guard operations in Antarctic waters during that time period. All #6 size, all cacheted, good variety of stamps. Ships include USCGC Northwind (WAGB-282, example shown above left from Operation Deep Freeze in 1959), USCGC Eastwind (WAGB-279), USCGC Westwind (WAGB-281), USCGC Southwind (WAGB-280, example shown above right from Operation Deep Freeze in 1967), USCGC Burton Island (WAGB-283), USCGC Staten Island (WAGB-278), USCGC Glacier (WAGB-4), USCGC Polar Star (WAGB-10) & USCGC Polar Sea (WAGB-11). Locations include Adare Station, Palmer Station & McMurdo Sound.
