Three of these postcards have been posted, and the others are of similar production, so we have used their range of dates for the collection. POSTAL CARDS Lot of 98 cards--most post cards bearing low-denomination stamps correctly used & the rest postal cards, a few with stamps added. Most used 1964-1997. Most are continental size (approximately 4"x6"), the rest regular size (approximately 3.6"x5.6"). Duplication present but a good variety of stamps, cancels, and topics. Rates: eighty-four 40 bani--click here for a few examples shown full-size; four 55 -bani; two 2-lei; one 2,10-lei; six 150-lei; and one 190-lei. Stamp topics include: animals, architecture, aviation, birds, famous people, flowers, Madonnas, Olympics & ships. "Bazar in Ada-Kaleh" Then an island in the Danube near Orsova, with
fortifications built by the Austrians, it later became the Gibraltar of the Ottoman
Empire, and was submerged by a dam in 1971. The native shopkeepers spoke Romanian,
Hungarian, Turkish, Serbian & German (Transylvania was nearby). Wares were gold,
embroidery, tobacco, fruits & sweets; there was also a barber shop. black & white
with dark red caption on yellowish paper, no postcard back. We suspect this card is a souvenir from the Hungarian
Expo of 1896, but we cannot prove it. $30.00 r
