RealEstate_SpecialExcursionBoth-200-460_small.jpg volcanoe post card available from Judnick.com  MEXICO. "SPECIAL EXCURSION / MEXICO-AMERICAN LAND CO." sepia-tone postcard with red caption, mailed December 20 1910 at Bunkerhill Kansas by Mabel Ely to Mr. Don Ely in Galion Ohio, upper left front corner reduced slightly by sender's scissors cut to separate it from a panoramic view, hint of cancel ink on front. The company, based in Kansas City, was previously unsuccessful at establishing a canal across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Oaxaca State. But this scene is not in Oaxaca. There are only 8 snow-capped peaks in Mexico. The silhouettes of the volcanic mountains in the distance definitively place this scene in Veracruz State, looking towards the west at the foothills & Volcán Citlaltépetl (dormant since 1687 & North America's third highest peak). Apparently the original panoramic view (of which this was part) was distributed to by-then quite probably disgruntled investors to prove there was land worth developing in Veracruz State -- with its flat terrain & reasonable roads having some appeal to farmers. Any material on this company is scarce: most of it is in Spanish, and images such as this are unheard of today. $50.00 m(v)rvg
